What this indicator shows
TS5 describes the timeliness of thrombectomy treatment once patients arrive at the thrombectomy-performing centre (hub). It focuses on how quickly patients proceed from arrival to arterial puncture.
This indicator provides a system-level view of in-hospital efficiency at the hub, covering both transferred and directly admitted patients.
Included
- All patients who received a mechanical thrombectomy within the network.
- Both transferred patients and patients directly admitted to the thrombectomy centre.
Excluded
- Patients who did not receive a thrombectomy.
- Admissions outside the thrombectomy network.

How TS5 is defined
TS5 is defined as the median door-to-puncture (DTP) time for patients within the thrombectomy network who receive a thrombectomy.
- Population included
All patients who received a thrombectomy, including:- patients transferred from referring centres, and
- patients directly admitted to the hub.
- Time measured
The time between:- arrival at the receiving thrombectomy centre (hub), and
- the time of arterial puncture.
The median value is used to represent typical performance across the system.
How to interpret this indicator
- Lower values indicate faster progression to treatment, which is associated with improved patient outcomes.
- Higher values indicate longer delays within the receiving centre.
- TS5 reflects system and hub-level processes, rather than pre-hospital or referring-centre performance.
Important considerations
- TS5 includes only patients who received a thrombectomy.
- Differences between systems may reflect case complexity, imaging pathways, staffing, and local protocols.
- This indicator should be interpreted alongside other access and timeliness measures within the Thrombectomy System Score.
