For the month of September 2021, teams in England will be asked to capture information about stroke mimics. Stroke mimics are patients who are assessed by the stroke team as a suspected stroke or stroke mimic but whose final diagnosis is not a stroke.
Teams will be asked to enter data into "Other" records to capture information about stroke mimics seen by the stroke team between 1-30 September 2021.
A copy of the updated proforma for “Other” cases can be downloaded from the bottom of this article. Data entry for confirmed stroke cases will continue as normal during the sprint audit.
For the purpose of the sprint audit, we are asking teams to add TIAs under the ‘Other’ dataset. If your team regularly adds TIA records, please be assured you can add two records for the same patient (one TIA record and one 'Other' record).
These are the current timelines for the sprint audit for stroke mimics:
- Data collection period: September 2021 (1 - 30 September)
- Data entry and checking period: 1 September – 5 November 2021
- Data-locking deadline: 5 November 2021
