SSNAP are currently working with NHS England on an ambulance-linkage project to complement and extend the current dataset, by incorporating pre-hospital data. Data entry from ambulance trusts will commence in April 2019. SSNAP team users will not need to enter any additional information, but this will generate very relevant and valuable data about the care received before patients arrive at hospital.
11 ambulance trusts in England will receive monthly downloads of locked records to retrospectively enter key data for. This information will be entered via a newly developed feature of the webtool, it will focus on patients taken subsequently confirmed to have had a stroke after hospital assessments and patients with postcodes in England.
This exciting addition to the SSNAP dataset is currently in the testing stage. At present, core questions have been developed, initial paper piloting been completed and internal webtool testing has begun. In upcoming months, with ambulance services and steering group involvement; further testing and feedback will occur through webtool piloting as well as regular steering group meetings.
Regular updates to the project will be provided to users via email, the SSNAP webtool and our quarterly newsletter.
